Let's talk about poetry, short stories, or essays. Nothing about novels or non-fiction books, please. Those media hogs! This blogger believes that short forms don't get the attention they deserve.

Poet Laureate
Are you familiar with the poetry of Kay Ryan? She is the current Poet Laureate of the United States. She has a spare, ironic style that I admire. You can find information about her and some of her poetry at www.loc.gov/poetry.
Barbara Kussow writes poetry, short stories, and essays.
A recently published book, Writing after Retirement (Rowman & Littlefield, 2014; ed. by Carol Smallwood and Christine and Christine Redman-Waldeyer), features her essay, “Writing for Literary Magazines after Retirement.” Her fiction has appeared in The Storyteller and Wild Violet, and is forthcoming in other literary magazines. One of her stories was a winner in the 2010 Writer's Digest Genre Short Story Contest. Poetry has been published in Kaleidoscope, Dos Passos Review, Hospital Drive, Danse Macabre, Wild Violet, and other publications. Essays and book columns have appeared online and in local papers. She is editor and publisher of Still Crazy, a literary magazine that publishes poetry, fiction, and essays written by or about people over age 50 (www.crazylitmag.com). Her personal web site is www.bkussow.com.
